Pappy's & Eric Lampaert
Coming to Hilarity Bites in Darlington on March 2nd 2012:
Pappy's
Hailed as "The funniest sketch troupe on the Fringe" (Scotsman) Pappy’s were nominated for the Edinburgh Comedy Award in 2007, won a Chortle Award in 2008 and have performed across the globe. They have appeared in their own shows on Channel 4 and Radio 4 and have been seen individually in shows such as 8 Out Of 10 Cats, Never Mind The Buzzcocks and Show & Tell.
Pappy's were the first ever British act to play the San Francisco Sketch Festival, following their fourth Edinburgh show, ‘World Record Attempt: 200 sketches in an hour’, which attracted widespread critical praise, and included two brilliant performances at Hilarity Bites. Their fifth live show ‘All Business’ garnered a string of 4 and 5 star reviews during their fifth successful year at the Edinburgh Festival.
Pappy’s writing and performing credits include a string of hit TV shows including Miranda (BBC Two), Ask Rhod Gilbert (BBC One), Meet the Parents (E4), Robert's Web (Channel 4), Fast and Loose (BBC Two), Greatest Movie Mistakes (BBC Three), The King is Dead (BBC Three) and Trinny and Susannah: From Boom to Bust (Channel 4).
"A jaw-dropping, laugh-a-second spectacular from three young men who are supremely talented writers and performers" - ★★★★★ - Chortle
"The best in their genre" - ★★★★★ - The Mirror
"Extraordinarily fresh and funny... glorious stuff" - The Times
"Pappy’s win every gushing reviewer cliché in the book. Rest assured that they are more than deserving of all of them" - Fest
Eric Lampaert
WINNER - 2010 Latitude Comedy Best New Act of the Year Competition
Since 2008, Eric’s play-dough face and weird grasshopper legs have been used on the stand up comedy circuit. And sometimes his face gets on the television, which can cause quite a stir. Some people think his face is CGI. It’s not. That’s his actual face and he loves it.
Resembling the lovechild of Tim Burton and a hairy lampost, Eric has been described as "delightfully weird" by Time Out magazine. A set from Eric never disappoints. He is an energetic, excited, over exaggerated character who will keep you engaged and entertained. And not just because you'll be looking at his face.
“The strength of his scatty character rips through the room like a mini-hurricane, destroying complacency and raising the spirits” - Chortle
“This is exactly what you want: gusto, affability and the ability to whip up an air of playful havoc” - Fest
“One to watch. Sublimely amusing” - Time Out
MC Ian Smith
Despite only being 21, Ian Smith has been performing comedy for more than three years and in that time has caught the eye with his style of downbeat observations and uniquely warped trains of thought.
Having won the Newbury Comedy Festival’s competition ‘You Must Be Joking’ in 2009, Ian has gone on to cement his reputation as one of the brightest young comics around, placing second in Comedy Central’s student competition and appearing in the final of Chortle’s student competition in 2010 for the second time.
"Fantastically funny" - The Times
"Star of the future" - TimeOut
"Real laugh-out-loud moments" - Comedy Central
