In June and July 2016 the Hilarity Bites New Act of the Year competition returns for the ninth year as the North-East's biggest and longest running comedy competition.

Who will follow in the footsteps of Sam Gore, Andrew Ryan, Andy Fury, Matt Winning, David Stanier, Freddy Quinne, Jack Gleadow, and Rob Mulholland to be named the winner of the competition?

Each heat will feature up to 12 acts each performing 7 minutes of material to try and win their place in the final.

Fancy taking part? Fill in the application form that can be downloaded here and get it back to us by May 1st. Places are only guaranteed for the first 48 eligible entrants, so don't delay.

All shows take place at Hole in the Wall in Darlington, with entry only £3 each for audience members. The dates for the competition are:

Monday 27th June

The Final - Monday 25th July (Tickets £5 each) as part of the Darlington Comedy Festival.
